While sitting around the table:
Alan:  How many cemeteries are there?
Me (completely surprised by the questions):  You mean how many are in our city?
Alan:  Yeah
Me:  I don't know...more than one.
Alan:  Could I go to one?
Me (in my head trying really hard to figure out where this is coming from):  Umm...sure, I guess Dad or I could take you to one.
Alan:  Yesss!!!  Then I'll get cookies!!!
Me:  What?!?
Alan:  Well, Dad gets cookies when he goes.
It suddenly clicks in my brain
Me:  Oh!  You mean seminary?  You want to go to seminary and have treats?
Alan:  Yeah, that's what I said.

We were driving in the car and there was a fair amount of fighting/quarrelling going on so we started to sing a song.  We started to sing Old MacDonald and when we got to the part where you say an animal we paused and turned to Micah and waited for him to say one.  He looked at us and said "I want to go to McDonalds".  That kind of ended the song as everyone else joined in. 

Another Micah story:
I was trying to get Micah to bed but he kept insisting that there was a scorpion.  I told him that scorpions don't live around here.  He insisted that they did:
Micah pulls me over to the landing and points at the ceiling:  See!!!  Its right there!!!
Me:  Where?
Micah:  There!!!
I see a little cobweb.  Me:  Micah, that's not a scorpion, its a cobweb
Micah (in a very serious and dramatic way):  Its a scorpion and its going to crawl into my room like this (starts pretending his hand is a bug and walks into his room).  Then it will crawl onto my bed (his voice has become almost sinister) and it will say (here is voice changes to very bright and happy) "Hi, Micah!" (his voice changes back to normal and with a lot of emphasis) and then I will CHOP it!!  (meanwhile he starts making wild chopping motions in the air).
It was just so funny to hear his voice change back and forth as he told me this story.

Brooklyn is in the van with Grandpa and Grandma Bassett as they drive up to their house.  She sees a chicken and yells "chicken".  Then she is quiet for a few seconds and suddenly she yells, while still looking at the chickens, "chicken nuggets!"  Ha ha, not yet Brooklyn.

Easter 2014!

This year we decided to try tie dye eggs:

We did our egg hunt on Saturday afternoon.  It was fun to watch the kids run around the yard, looking for eggs.  Conner found one:

Each of the kids got a big bubble wand.  As soon as Micah saw them he decided they were "light savers":

Pictures from April

Here are some random pictures from April.  Alan has asked me for a while if he could make pancakes by himself.  I told him he could if he was careful and I put the recipe for our pancakes (we make them from scratch) on the fridge.  One morning he got up early and made pancakes for everyone.  Unfortunately he misread the recipe and put 2 Table spoons of salt in the batter, instead of 1/2 tsp.  We tried them anyway but they were pretty salty so we only ate a couple of bites.  I was so proud of him for trying though!

One day Alan and Conner decided to make Reed and I breakfast in bed.  Alan made pancakes again and this time he got the recipe right.  Conner made toast and one of them made orange juice.  It was a delicious breakfast!:

We got our bikes ready for summer and went on a few bike rides by the river:

Basketball

We put Alan in basketball this year.  It was his first time playing on a team, and his first time playing basketball.  He learned a ton.  When he started he didn't know he had to dribble the ball to move, or what any of the rules were.  His coach was great and very patient.  It was fun to watch him improve and have fun:
