Family pictures

Before my parents left we took some family pictures. We were sure sad to see them go!!I will put up some pictures of our family in a little while, after I find them on the other computer.
My parents left on a Sunday. Our church is from 1 to 4pm so we try to give Alan a nap before church so that he survives the day. He didn't get a nap the day my parents left and this was the result:

He finished his dinner and I went to go get him some dessert and when I came back he was out cold. I was only gone for 2 minutes!!! It took a lot of effort to wake him up, poor little guy.

Swimming

While my parents were here we took Alan swimming so that they could see his swimming skills. He loves to swim and he won't let us help him, or hold him anymore. He wants to swim by himself (he wears a floaty vest thing).
Alan usually just swims using his legs, he hardly uses his arms at all. Reed and my parents were trying to teach him to use his arms to help him swim. He doesn't like to put his face in the water but the last time we took him would put his mouth in the water and breathe through his nose, so he is making small steps in that direction.
Conner and I didn't go swimming but here is a picture of him doing one of his favorite activities: snuggling.

The Denver Zoo

My parents and brother came to visit a couple of days after Conner was born. My brother Drew wanted to go to a temple while he was here so we all traveled to Denver and stayed for a couple of days. Drew, Reed and I went to the temple while my parents watched the boys. That was so nice, who knows when we will get another opportunity to go? The next day we went to the Denver Zoo. It is huge!! We had a lot of fun looking at all the animals.
My parents took Alan on the train around a part of the zoo. We thought Alan might go to sleep - wishful thinking.

I couldn't have planned this picture better. Alan loved looking at the lemurs. He had his face pressed up against the glass when one of the lemurs jumped down and landed right in front of him. He lunged back and pulled his hands to his chest and you can kind of see his facial expression in the reflection of the glass. Priceless!!!

One of my favorites was the polar bears. Unfortunately the polar bears weren't feeling very frisky...they were mostly asleep. It would have been fun to see them swim (they had a viewing area where you could see them swimming underwater)

It was a nice day so we all got ice cream - Yum!

Alan and Dad on the Carousel. Alan wanted to ride the zebra. The last time we took him on a carousel he hated it but this time he liked it.
To finish off the day we went to Casa Bonita and had dinner. It is a Mexican restaurant that Reed remembers eating at as a teenager (Ken was there, maybe he remembers?). The food was good but the fun thing was the entertainment. They had puppet shows, magic shows, a pirate cave, cliff divers, and other assorted shows. They also let the kids break a pinata every hour. It was really fun.
And here are a couple of pictures of Conner. Isn't he cute? He is starting to figure out his days and nights, which is nice. At first he was just snacking and then staying up for half the night - snacking and cat napping. Now he wakes up around 1 am and 4 am and then sleeps till 6 or 7.

This picture shows off his long fingers - maybe he will play the piano when he grows up. Thats all for now.

And now...the rest of the story

So, Tuesday night I started to have some light contractions so Reed and I started speculating at what time the baby would be born. However the contractions remained light and inconsistent and then they stopped completely. Reed went to work and I went about my day. Then at 10:30 am I noticed I was leaking some fluid and then contractions picked up after that so I called Reed and he came home. I called the doc and they said to come in and get checked so we dropped Alan off at a friends house and headed to the hospital. When I got there the doc checked me and she said "Wow, dear, you are 7 centimeters, we need to get you to the birthing center". So I checked into the hospital at 1:40 pm and he was born at 3:55 pm. So the labour was short (hooray!!)

Reed went and picked Alan up the next morning and brought him to the hospital to meet his new brother. Here is his first look at Conner. He seems to like him. Now that we are home he keeps wondering why he sleeps so much. He will stand in front of Conner as he swings and say "Wake up, wake up".

Introducing Conner Kent Bassett

We had our baby on May 7 2008 at 3:55 pm!!! He weighed in at 8 lb. 1/2 oz and was 21 inches long. We had a hard time deciding on a name. We had 5 names picked out when we went to the hospital and we crossed off three of them after we saw him. Then we both flip-flopped between Conner and Jayden for a while. We liked both names and we could see him being either a Conner or a Jayden. Finally we settled on Conner. The middle name was easier - we combined our dads names: Ken + Brent = Kent. Here is a picture. I will try to do more tomorrow (I am tired)
